The Mint Julep has been the official drink of the Kentucky Derby for over a hundred years. Some would call that "tradition" but I call it long overdue for a change!
Sage is obviously a wiser herb than mint and limoncello is the duct tape of mixology, it fixes everything. Ginger gives it an unexpected zing that you won't soon forget. It all adds up to a huge improvement over that dumb old mint julep.
This drink does have more steps and ingredients than a mint julep, but even those hailing from Kentucky should still be able to assemble it. (Editor's note - he's originally from just over the border in Ohio, so this qualifies as "good-natured ribbing.")
