The Patriot

Mixed Drinks with Blood Orange Liqueur , Tequila Limoncello Drinks

It's close to Independence Day here in the States, so I thought I'd name this drink something patriotic. Sorry I couldn't be more creative.

I named it The Patriot because much like the movie of the same name, it has a lot of blood (orange) in it. This is also the cocktail that Mel Gibson was drinking before the got arrested for DUI in 2006. That's true, you can look it up. (Editor's note: That is definitely NOT true.)

Just in case you thought I couldn't possibly tie this American name and tequila-laced drink straight back to Italy; blood oranges are originally from Sicily. They remain one the most treasured Sicilian exports.

The anthocyanin that gives the juice that stunning red color is also a powerful antioxidant. So it's chasing down the free radicals that are created by the alcohol in the drink. It's like a little war happening right in your margarita glass.  Enjoy the fireworks!

The Giada

Mixed Drinks with Limoncello , Tequila Limoncello Drinks

It's delicious. It's beautiful. It's Italian. It's the Giada.

It's also displayed on a posh, weathered Restoration Hardware-looking table that seems like something Giada would own. This drink is also easy to make, at least while we still lack huge tariffs on imports from Mexico.

I recommend a 12-year Anejo for this recipe. But my ability for form that sentence is as far as my Tequila expertise extends so take that with a grain of salt (pun intended).

A couple of confessions for this post:

1) A fancier mixologist might have photographed a FULL bottle of limoncello, but I'm trying to keep it real here. My well-over-half-drained bottle proves that it's delicious...

2) I would have included Giada's last name in this post somewhere, but I can't spell it.

The Parting Shot

Mixed Drinks with Blood Orange Liqueur

This is a shot of blood orange limoncello enrobed in chocolate.

Now, if something has "chocolate on top" then...meh. And if it's "covered in chocolate," that's interesting but not thrilling.

But if it's enrobed in chocolate, let's be honest, it's a goner. That word makes you forget the name of the diet you were on.

And don't get me started on the dark chocolate shavings on top. As everyone knows, dark chocolate is much more civilized than milk chocolate. I'd say that it makes my mouth water just looking at it, but it's really more of a slobber.

Why call it the Parting Shot? Because it's a dessert. You don't start the evening off with a drink like this, that would be ridiculous and irresponsible.

Keto Diet Detox Lemonade

Mixed Drinks with Limoncello , Vodka Limoncello Drinks

Look, the internet is chock full of blog posts telling you how to get ON the Keto diet, but that's not my bag. I'm here to tell you how to get OFF the Keto diet and detox yourself from all that clean living.

What you do is you make this cocktail...and then you drink it.

Sure, there's some lemon juice in there which is unfortunately super healthy. But if you can overlook that you'll see that it also contains plenty of sugar, vodka and of course, limoncello.

Cucumber vodka might also sound healthy as vodka goes, but that's pure shenanigans. I'm positive it's some kind of cucumber flavoring that was developed by a guy in a lab who is trying to figure out how to make vodka 4.2% cheaper to produce.
